Ciekawostki - AMW Hotele

  • In the tenth century, Poznan was the seat of the Polish rulers, next to Gniezno. The kings sat on the throne on Ostrów Tumski – the only island, located within the city borders.
  • The International Trade Centre is visited annually by more than 10 thousand exhibitors, including 3 thousands foreign companies from 70 countries of the world.
  • Poznan is the city of lakes! Lake Malta is an artificial reservoir, which offers such attractions as:

– regatta courses, where Canoe Sprint World Championships take place,
– the year-round Malta Ski Slope,
– a zoological garden,
– Poznan Bicycle Node, which is the central node of the Greater Poland Bicycle Route System.

  • On the tower of the City Hall, there are two little goats that every day at 12.00 noon hit each other with their horns. Currently, the City Hall houses the Museum of the History of the City of Poznan.
  • When visiting Poznan, it is worth trying a traditional delicacy, namely St. Martin’s croissant (rogal świętomarciński). Its history dates back to the 19th century and is connected with the act of a confectioner, who – upon the call of the parish priest to help the poor, baked the croissants. The tasty filling of the dessert includes almonds, walnuts, and white poppy seeds. Every year on 11 November, i.e. the day of St. Martin, the inhabitants of Poznan gorge themselves on the croissants, commemorating the act of the confectioner.
  • According to a legend, Poznan was saved from enemy forces with the help of the king of ravens and a bugler’s son – Bolek. One day, walking through the city, the young boy encountered in his path a wounded raven, which he took care of. The raven spoke with a human voice and gave the boy a token of gratitude – a silver trumpet, saying that the boy could use it if he needed help. For many years, Bolek refrained from using the instrument, but one day – seeing the approaching army of enemies – he blew the trumpet. A swarm of ravens appeared over the city, attacked the enemy, defending the settlement.
